Yale School of Drama Presents

blues for miss lucille

By Audley Puglisi, Directed by Logan Ellis

blues for miss lucille was presented in the middle of my second year at Yale as part of the Langston Hughes festival of new plays, and I got to collaborate with the amazing Audley Puglisi to workshop and stage this story inspired by the music of Lucille Bogan. We explored the world of Harlem Renaissance Black Queer jazz music and the prominent social figures that informed the way that era led into the present. The tech of the production was minimal, but it was a joy to create a world filled with improvisation, comedy, and lyricism with Audley and the actors.
