Dark Play or Stories for Boys

The mad genius William Hand used to run this company of young artists in San Francisco called Do It Live! Productions. I was lucky to be a part of it for a few years, starting with this show about internet catfishing, repressed sexuality, and killer nerds. It was my first full production in the Bay Area, and the most exciting part about it was watching the careers of each of the designers and actors take off in the years that followed. Set in the iconic Exit Theater downtown, the play used Carlos Murillo’s writing of the central character’s internal monologue with eerily sentimental through-composed underscoring by Hannah Birch Carl and a fractured playground setting by Erik LaDue.
