WE ARE PUSSY RIOT or Everything is P.R.

WE ARE PUSSY RIOT was an interactive music theater event that took over a block of Kent Station in summer of 2017. The show explored the mysterious relationship between the Russian Orthodox Church, Vladimir Putin, Pussy Riot, Madonna, God, and the United States. It was a nearly-devised musical with punk songs, desecrated traditional hymns, multiple improvised passages, and an opening sequence in which Pussy Riot arrives in front of the theatre by van and storms the sidewalk screaming lyrics before being beaten and arrested. Theatre Battery worked in concert with the community to fulfill the interactive psychedelic vision found in Barbara Hammond’s text.
